Hi,

You know the question an now I hope you can help me!

Is it a obligation on a table tennis tournament to play with orange balls?

It is a fatuously question but I see only on every tournament orange balls.
Maybe some countries have other rules, but in the most countries it is free to decide which ball colour the tournament will offer.

The reason for yellow balls is simple: if the backround is very bright, white balls have bad visibility, that's when yellow balls are used. If both yellow and white balls are well visible against the backround, it's a matter of preference (and the white ball is normally used since it is kind of established as a standard).
Currently there are no yellow balls in table tennis. There have been only orange balls for a few years. Yellow balls aren't allowed anymore.

Hi,

normally orange balls should better be seen in TV but:

1. Only a really low proportion of tournaments are broadcasted in TV.

2. Even if they are broadcatsted (like e.g. the world cup in belgium 2 weeks ago) they play with white balls.

I think the white ball can also be seen good in TV if the table is blue and the floor red.

For sure there is no rule about it. White and orange balls are allowed and which one you choose does`t matter.

Of course it's not an obligation that you have to use orange balls, look at wttc or olympics they have blue tables and white balls.
But maybe in the future they'll have the idea to establish this rule because of financial reasons. But I don't think so.

My country is belguim and there it is obligated, but if it is an ittf rule i don't know but if it isn't wants the problem then?
Okay, in Belgium it's an obligation - but this is not an ITTF rule. Thats why I said "it's nonsense". Sorry for this, for your country this is right but not for all member associations of the ITTF and the ITTF itself.

Well, if it is not ITTF-rule, then this can be handled different in all countries.
That is not a problem at all, but then in Germany or Sweden or China it might be not obligatory (table colur/ball colour), i.e. else then in Belgium.

That's the only reason asking, if it's an ITTF-regulation

Wish you a nice 2004 and would you not like to become "member" in our tt-news community ?

no nonsense on green tables u must use white and on blue tables u use orange.!

Thanks for your info, Besucher (=visitor), but is that only so in your country (you unfortunately did not mention the country you are from) or is that really world wide (means: are there rules from the ITTF stating this)

BTW:
Wish you all a nice and happy 2004 ..
