I'm not sure what a kick service is. Is that a topspin serve that kicks on the table?
I think so. But since the new bigger ball my "kick-service" isn´t one anymore
My shoulder is not that fast enough.
To practice services:
Bucket full of balls, concentrate on every service and repeat each service 20 times. If you got it like you want it to, change after every service, just like in the match.
Practicing services is easy and success comes even fast.
I had 4 or 5 sessions of half an hour last year, and had not one service-fault the hole season and I had a lot points on my serve.
Up to now I did nothing and the faults come back.
So even keep it, when they seem to be perfect.

Re: Service? Ideas?

Hi All,

found this sentence in the WWW:

QUOTE:
Serve short to the middle of the table (2nd bounce of the ball to be max. on end line, better before) and long (fast) to the end and corner of the table or to the body.
UNQUOTE:

Might be it's true, might be not.

I personally have trained:
- long serves BH diagonal to opponent's edge
- short BH underslice parallel directly behind receiver's net
- FH underslice from BH-side + middle of table to all sides / medium long (in order to lure the opponent into a trap, when he tries to attack this serve)
- FH underslice / side slice and kick from BH-side both long diagonal and short parallel
- FH underslice from FH-side of the table diagonally short + parallel middle/long

By means of my serves I get a lot of points directly and many with the next FH/BH top spin+side spin attack

That's nice.

Ciao

zachary hi uwe!

I'm not sure what you mean by kick-serves..but here's are some ideas for serve practice which someone taught me:

short serves

The key to a good short underspin serve, she said (ok ok - but she was an ex-Rumanian national player and has a lot of coaching experience), was (1) to get the ball to bounce as close as possible to the net on your side (2) to contact the ball on the bottom or even on the front-side of ball (i.e. the side facing your opponent) with lots of wrist action.

(2) is all timing and just takes practice, but she showed me something very simple for (1). Next time you're practicing short serves, place a long object (a stick, a rolled-up towel, etc) parallel to your end of the table, about half-way to the net. The goal is to serve so that the first bounce of ball is between object and net. Keep moving the object closer to the net as you get better.

long serves

the idea is to place them so that they bounce very deep on the opponents side of table. when practising, you can place your towel spread out so that it covers the last 30cm of the table on the opponent's side, and try to serve long so it bounces on the towel. then as you get better, slowly adjust it so it covers 25cm, then 20cm, 15cm etc.
