I think there is the same answer for the second and the third question. --> Joo Se Hyuk. What the first question is concerned im not very sure, because I don´t know every defender from the past.

Some years ago Timo Boll said, that Hou Yingchao is able to produce as much downspin at the table, like Evguine Chtchetinine can produce some metres behind the table. That sounds incredible.;)

The most spectacular playing style had Koji Matsushita. :klatsch::top:

The best defender of the past, present & future: Richard Bergmann, hands down.

Without the disruption of World War II, he would have easily won the men's single crown in the World Championships a few more times, making his record even more impressive. In his heydays, he was the nightmare of all Chinks (in German: 'Schlitzaugen'), no Asian or European player came close.

His attacking qualities were also not bad, pushing the possibilities of the rackets in the hardbat era to the limit....

Also für mich ist Joo Se Hyuk nicht der beste Abwehrspieler aller Zeiten... er spielt seit langen Jahren auf extrem hohem Niveau (mittlerweile trotz Krankheit), verliert selten gegen schwächere Spieler und ist immer unter den Besten der Weltrangliste zu finden. Das verdient echt Respekt. Aber außer seinem 2. Platz bei der WM hat er auch noch nie den richtig großen Wurf gelandet und der genannte ist schon 12 Jahre her. Gegen die Chinesen gibt es sowieso immer nur Senge, wobei das zugegeben bei den Abwehrern aus alten Zeiten heute vermutlich auch so wäre. Joo lebt aber in erster Linie von seiner großen Sicherheit und von seinen Offensivaktionen. Wenn man z.B. die Videos von 2003 sieht, hat er mit der Vorhand sogar fast alles angegriffen und viel weniger abgewehrt. Das war damals neu, schlecht ausrechenbar und gefährlich, weil man kaum Rhythmus findet und keine Ball ohne Qualität einfach mal sicherheitshalber "ablegen" darf. Ich denke aber, in Bezug auf Schnittwechsel und Schnittmenge gibt es einige bessere Abwehrer. Dass man einen der besten Spieler der Welt gegen Joo Se Hyuk mal einen Ball ins Netz ziehen sieht, ist schon eine Rarität. Dafür sind seine Abwehrbälle konstant flach. Bei Chtchetinine oder Hou Yingchao kommt da auch ab und zu mal ein Turm, weil sie viel mehr Risiko gehen und variieren. Die säbeln da ja auch beim Rückschlag viel mehr rein als Joo.

Chtchetinine hat selbst mit 40 und völlig ohne Angriffsschläge noch einen Satz bei der Team-WM gegen Wang Hao, bekanntermaßen ein Abwehrkiller, gewonnen. Da will ich erstmal sehen, dass ein Joo Se Hyuk das auch nur im Ansatz schafft. Für mich ist er der beste Spieler mit Abwehrschlägen, aber nicht der beste Abwehrspieler.

Selbst bei den modernen Abwehrern bin ich mir nicht so sicher. Ding Song war z.B. auch mal WM-Dritter und bester Spieler der Bundesliga, hat aber mit 26 Jahren schon seine internationale Karriere beendet. Und Matsushita fand ich auch deutlich spektakulärer als Joo Se Hyuk. Bei Joo wirkt alles antrainiert, bei Matsushita war es elegant.

Sicher das du das nicht anderst herum meinst
