Hi everybody!
I'm a little curious! So, what's your favourite table tennis player ? My fave one is J-O! He's gorgeous! Though he is getting older.... |
Applegren
Mikael Applegren of Sweden
Without a doubt, Waldner is the better player and arguably the best player ever, but ever since I saw Applegren playing at the US Open, I have admired his quickness and agility. Especially his rallies against Waldner in the final where some of the best table-tennis I have ever seen. |
Mikael Appelgren is a good player but Jan-Ove is a genius and looking at him while his playing gives me a feeling of sheer joy I hadn`t have with any other player.

@yoshi
in a way you're right! Appelgren was a great player in the last decennier, but when I recently saw him playing in Sweden he wasn't that quick any more. But the same happens to J-O. By the way, which are the best American table tennis players? |
@Kate
The best American players right now are mainly Chinese-born - Cheng Yinghua, Fan Yiyong and David Zhuang for the Men, and Gao Jun for the Women. Gao Jun was formerly World #2 female player when she was still living and training in china. |
In the 3. league of Germany (Regionalliga), there plays a young American in Kleinwallstadt on position 2. His name is Eric Owens. Which position does Eric Owens have in the ranking in the USA?
|
My favourite player is Vladimir Samsonov. He hasn't so many victories than J-O, but he's a very nice guy and he plays very good!!
|
@ml
Eric Owens is playing in your 3rd League?? That's pretty terrible. He's currently rated around #5 in the US, and will be on the American team that's going to Osaka! I don't mean to say that Eric Owens is a bad player. I think he's great, and a very nice guy, I hear, and he spends a lot time training hard in Europe (mainly Sweden, I think) because the training conditions in the US are not so good. He is one of the few American-born players in the top 10 list of the US. |
My favourite Player is Christoph Legout, his agility is fascinating to me, he´s a fighter, I wish (if I had a real wish for free:D)I could play like him, even if I´m right-handed (is that the right word?).
I even like Koji Matsushita very much, just for the attraction and for his furious speed. |
My all-time favorite is Grubba, but if I have to name a still active player I pick Jörgen Persson.
The first match I ever saw on TV was Grubba vs. Waldner. Very long rallies, incredible control and tactical diversity. This game had it all - power looping, lobs, chopping, Grubba switching the bat to his left hand and scoring the point. Easily the best match I have ever seen (at least if skill is the measure. When it comes to excitement nothing beats the quarterfinal of the '96 Olympic Games of Atlanta - Rosskopf vs. Kim Taek Soo) |
