Balls

I have read a few threads about tabletennisballs. Most matches that I play, orange balls are used. After playing again with white balls on different occasions, I start to believe that white balls are better balls than the orange ones. 'Better' meaning that white balls don't break so easy like orange balls. The reason would be that the chemical component for the orange color makes the ball easier breakable.

In Aarhus you can see that they play with white balls. I remember that orange balls started to be used together with blue tables because it would be easier to see the orange ball on a blue table as a player or as a spectator. But this tournament is now on Eurosport, why don't they use orange balls. I think because of the bad quality of orange balls. Does anybody has the same thoughts?

(sorry for me first post but I had to close my computer and I didn't thought that I had posted this thread already)

Interesting... You extracted them? ;)

@Ivo-M: Well, my club plays on blue tables too, but also with white balls.
I think orange balls have more and more the funktion like a red ball in soccer (used in winter with snow). They are only used, if there are real problems to see a white ball (bright floor, bright wall, etc.).
However, I have not so much experience with orange balls. I had three orange Joola ***, they where pretty heavy. They broke in a short time, but I had worse white balls (BTY for example).

I always had the feeling, that orange balls are a little bit more elastic at the "equator" (Naht), so that they don´t break as fast as white ones.

Tja mein Englisch ist nicht so überragend. Leseverstehen ist zwar ok aber am schreiben haperts. Deswegen auf Deutsch :)

Ich finde die neuen (40mm) Bälle gehen alle viel zu schnell kaputt. Deswegen habe ich mal für „There are no good table tennis Balls“ gestimmt

No problem, I can speak, understand and read German but writing without mistakes is something different if you never learned german in school.

I can only say that orange balls most times (90% of the time) break across the equator with the length of the equator and sometimes they break close to the equator but then the break doesn't touch the equator.

With white balls this is 'always' along the equator (in die lenge des nathes). (as far as I can remember this because it has been a few years since I have seen a broken white ball)
