Table Tennis in USA
 

I'm a 16 years old boy living in Germany. I will go to America for ten months starting after this summer. To continue my hobby Table Tennis I am now searching for informations about the popularity in America. Do I have realistic chances to play table tennis there? Which states/cities have the most table tennis clubs?

Bin vor knapp zwei Jahren von Deutschland in die USA umgesiedelt. Habe mittlerweile einiges hier gesehen und kann darueber Bucher schreiben. Ich wohne in New Jersey (ganz noerdlich und damit in der Naehe von New York) und spiele beim NJTTC (njttc.org).
Also, wenn Dein zukuenftiges Domizil hier in der Naehe sein sollte, kann ich Dir mal ausfuehrlich alles erklaeren.

Well, Nacki, actually, it is not any of "our stuff". But it's a very well established drug and people just swear on it. The same is true for Advil (painkiller). Everybody praises that pill.

But holy shit, Ambien did the trick on me. That damn thing whiped me out way beyond any expectation - and by the way, I took only one quart of a single pill (however, I got to mention that I usually don't take any drugs at all).

I just came back from the the Monday Night League. I played like a chicken and lost hopelessly. Consequently, my internal club rating is going to drop significantly. Of course, I do have to blame that on the Ambien, a mint forehand-rubber and a run-down blade. ;)

Anyway, have a good one....

That's what I say. But I don't think that Tony is pushing here some funny or freaky pills, boys.

- There's more than meets the eye: it's an hidden allusion to one of the bloodiest movies of all time; in Germany long forbidden or at least on the index:

´Braindead´ , from Peter Jackson (the director of the latest King Kong remake).

Besides it has lots of fun (actually more a parody than a serious horror movie), many countries banned it from cinema and TV.

Truly a pity...

That´s correct, not too horrible and in the first place a film that gives you some good laughs (like Bad Taste). More shocking and depressing at least at the end is Jackson´s Heavenly Creatures.

Back to the initial topic. It's interesting how European TT is being perceived here in the States. There's the overall assumption, that in Europe you can find perfect training conditions anywhere. Which is, by the way, not a suprise, considering the situation here. The clubs' facilities by far do not meet any average European standard. So far, I didn't come across with any showers, for instance. Often the clubs are located in rather run down buildings.

Anyway, there is this underlying assumption that players from Europe are by default great players. Our club hosts a monthly tournament which mainly gathers players from the Tri-State area, but every once in a while we have guests signing up from Germany. I always get contacted by Larry (who runs and facilitates the tournaments), asking me for advice as to how he should rate those players. Well, given my rating (around 2150 which translates to Landes-Verbandsliga in Germany), I estimated a rating for our guests (Oberliga) of 2300. So the guys showed up for the tournament and came across a little arrogant, to say the least. Anway, they got ripped and killed by almost everybody and were never ever seen since. My mates at the club were fairly suprised, obviously. I think you can draw all different kinds of conclusions from that. Oberliga isn't Oberliga all the same across Germany. And secondly, don't you ever underestimate the US boys! They will never upset the world's elite players, but on an advanced level up till Regionalliga (a few exeptions, e.g., David Zhuang can play 2. Liga, no doubt about that), they do keep up doubtlessly.
