Well... I built that bat originally in 1978 or so. THere was a block of scrap magnesium layin' 'round the machine shop at work.

I suppose it's lighter than most materials... or at least most readily available metals...

Mostly, bragging rights I guess. Plus... the offset the way it is would allow for a vary mean backhanded snap from the left hip.
