Japan

Über die Dominanz der Japaner im Team-Wettbewerb konnte man zuvor noch beim ITTF lesen:

Japan, Japan and Japan…
Covering the ITTF World Junior Circuit these days you feel more like the famous Swedish broadcaster Sven Jerring did back in Olympic games – Berlin 1936.

Good old Sven had to, over the radio, explain one of the most famous Swedish sports debacle ever. The proud Swedish soccer team was loosing 1-3 against Japan.

“ I can only see Japanese players, they are throwing themselves, running all over the field, blocking shots, fighting. Everywhere I look there are Japanese players.

There should be no doubt that the world of table tennis is under attack from a well trained, resource-full and talented group of Japanese table tennis players.

So far they are dominating the ITTF Junior circuit event in Platja D Aro, Spain winning the team events for Junior and cadet boys and finishing as runner up in junior girls.

Also on the coaching side of things Japan is looking for improvements. Mario Amizic is connected to Japanese youth table tennis in a consulting role. -"For the moment things are looking much better only compared to one year ago. It is my feeling that the young players finally are getting some recognition also from the senior national team coaches. Japan has always been well stocked with talents and if we can find a way to help the young players to make a smoother transition to the senior level good things will happen, Mario said.

Well.. In Platja D Aro , Spain good things are already happening. Just ask the spectators of two excellent team finals yesterday. To have Jun Mizutani JPN and Daniella Dodean ROM lining up at the same time was a feast, even for the most critical of table tennis eyes.
