Auch ich stelle mir diese Frage.....in der Zwischenzeit:
Joe Pass - Best of Joe Pass
Norman Granz in seinen Liner Notes zum Album:
"Let me say at the outset that Joe Pass is unquestionably the best jazz guitar player in the world."
Notwithstanding the above, it's a friggin brilliant album, period. Irrespective of personal preference and genre-nazi-ism. As a music lover and guitar aficionado it's as close to damn guitar heaven as it gets. This is pure and unambiguous. It's
just a man with his guitar, unfiltered, unaltered, as transparent as it gets.
What I love about Joe, there is zero pretentiousness in his playing. His guitar is a window to his soul, spirit or whatever higher being of oneself there is.
I took on the challenge to do a study on "Blues for Alican". Realistically, it'll take me a solid your to get this down to a somewhat acceptable level. This is my dilemma with Joe's music: I am so f-in intrigued that I don't know whether I should take it as inspiration/motivation or just look for a solid piece of rope and a sturdy tree in the backyard.....
