AW: ITTF WJC Swedish Junior Open am 23./24. Februar in Örebro

JUNIORBOYS Einzel

In der Round of 64 wurden Baum und Ovtcharov ihrer Favoritenrolle gerecht, während für Mengel bereits das Einzelturnier zu Ende ist:

GNIEWIK Victor POL - OVTCHAROV Dimitri 1 - 4 (10-12 11-8 5-11 9-11 5-11 )

MAGLIC Domagoj HRV - BAUM Patrick 2 - 4 (9-11 11-8 8-11 11-9 4-11 5-11)

MICHELY Gilles LUX - MENGEL Steffen 4 - 2 (11-9 6-11 9-11 11-7 11-9 11-4)

ITTF-Kommentar:
"In fact only one of the sixteen seeds –Steffen MENGEL of Germany failed to defend his position in the Junior Boys' singles. He lost in six games against the much improved Gilles MICHELY from Luxembourg , in the best match of the evening in Idrottshuset. MICHELY, who reached the semi-final at the Doha Junior Open, is well underway to resume a successful carrier after having a tough entry year in the junior category.

“Gilles had some good success in Europe as a cadet player. He struggled last year and came up thin most of the times, mostly due to physical reasons. For the moment he is definetly on his way up again and Gilles is for sure one of the players we are trying to build around to achieve some momentum for the National team" said Christer JOHANSSON, National coach in Luxembourg."
