Timo BOLL crowned Super champion in Kazan
17/10/2007 – The richest European tournament never held (120.000 USD prize money) needed a super-champions to celebrate, such as Timo BOLL was indeed. Tonight’s final in Kazan nominated the top-seeded European player the worthy TMS Super Cup winner: Timo BOLL showed a sharp supremacy to reach the goal he had focused from the very beginning of this challenging mission in the Tatarstan capital. The final score (4-0) doesn’t allow any regrets to the others.
Kazan, a true city of sport, finally discovered what exciting spectacle table tennis can offer. BOLL and SAMSONOV showed themselves the skilled players everybody knows, confirming their fair-play also in the match critical moment.
For sure, SAMSONOV suffered a two-nil reverse at the very beginning of the match. He tried to rise in the third set during which both contenders gifted beautiful shots. BOLL got the third point with a narrow margin (11-9) leaving the Belarussian very few hopes. Even though Vladi didn’t waive to fight till the latest point, the TMS European Super Cup was already on the way to Germany.
Michael MAZE beat Alexei SMIRNOV in close six sets to secure the bronze medal place, disappointing the Russian to finish fourth out of the final podium.
RESULTS – Third place final: Michael Maze (Den)-Alexei Smirnov (Rus) 4-2 (1-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-7, 11-4, 11-5). First place final: Timo Boll (Ger)-Vladimir Samsonov (Blr) 4-0 (11-9, 11-4, 11-9, 16-14).
