See two different serves of Liu Guoliang in slow motion (animated gif). Guess what type of spin he puts on the balls.
Will these hidden serves be legal if the new service rule passes? I think so. Watch him play a point in real time (RealPlayer8) in the 95 US Open Final against Feng. http://members.fortunecity.com/pongc...liangServe.htm --Rob EXPERIMENTAL SERVICE LAW Draft 4 - 28.1.01 1 Service shall start with the ball resting freely on the open palm of the server's free hand. 2 The server shall then project the ball so that it rises near vertically at least 16cm after leaving the free hand and falls without touching anything until it is struck. 3 As the ball is falling, it shall be struck so that it touches first the server's court and then, after passing over or around the net, touches the receiver's court; in doubles, the ball shall touch first the server's right half-court and then the receiver's right half-court. 4 From the time at which the ball is projected from the server's free hand until it is struck it shall be above the level of the playing surface and behind the server's end line. 5 When the ball is struck it shall be visible to the umpire and no part of the server's body or clothing shall be between it and the net. 6 The umpire may relax the requirements for a good service where he is satisfied, before play begins, that strict compliance is prevented by physical disability.
