International TT-NEWS Open
Okay, I'd like to share a couple of things with you regarding the upcoming mega-tournament (International TT-NEWS Open) as I was attending that event a couple of years back ago.
First of all, it is gigantic. 40 tables and three days of non-stop table-tennis. The facilities were great and perfectly designed to accomodate huge crowds - I guess there were about 1000 players present that time. I chose to stay in a nearby hotel which offered a bargain rate, especially to lodge participants of the tournament. Others prefered to camp outside on the adjacent yards next to the gym. I arrived late afternoon on Friday and joined in the rather casual, yet, gi-normous Round Robin. Actually, it's not so much a Round-Robin, but rather a "I play as much as I want" modus. You can literally take a break at anytime you want and join back in later. There were some serious folks striving to come in first, but the larger crowd - including myself - took it rather easy. And admittedly, I guess the amount of beers I had, definitely outnumbered the matches I had played that night . And at some point I decided to stop playing and persue my crusade at the bar and grill. However, when I headed back to the hotel that night around 2:00 AM, I peaked into the gym and some lunes were still hitting balls over the net... The next day began with a ridiculously rich breakfast. And while I piled up my plate I met a bunch of guys who were pongers too and happen to stay at the same hotel. With my belly ready to burst, we grabbed our bags and took off to the gym (which was in 10 minutes walking distances). After a short warm up, the actual tournament started. Even though my attemps to shine at the table were of rather limited success, it still was a blast. I got to meet a whole lot of people in person of which I only knew their TT-News nick-names. So we played and ate and drank and played again, etc. Quite exhausting but so much fun. After countless matches, I took cold shower and an even colder "blonde" at the bar, everybody gathered at a nearby yard. There were party-tents, charcoal-grills, bars and tons of food and beverages. Again, I got to meet a lot of new and some well-known folks and there was a lot of discussion around rubbers and blades, new rules, etc. etc. And not to my surprise, on my way back to the hotel and as the night before I stuck my head into the gym, and yes, some people never get enough - there was cursing, sweating, cheer and some restless pongers who apparently don't sleep at all. On Sunday morning I played a few more matches. Then it was time to get off the stage and leave it up to the Pros. And for the next few hours we all got to see great rallies, some brutal forehand ripps, spectacular fishing and everything that apparently separates a Pro from us hobby-pongers. It was truly awesome and I can't wait to come back again. So you guys should really not hold off, but get your butts down to Oberboihingen (Stuttgart), because you don't want miss out on that one, believe me. Here is the link to more detailed information, the online registration, further info on transportation and lodging. International TT-News Open If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me. I'm coming to play at the tournament.
I shall be travelling from Sheffield in the U.K. Should be a good laugh with some good German beverages and excellent sausages. I can't wait to munch one of the "Currywursts", which I had the last time I was in Germany.

Got you.
No, I can't make it this year, too many other things going on around that time. But I'll definitely try to come over next year or the following. |

Hello Peter,
unfortunately my English isn’t the best, as my school days are long gone. Further to this my regular life and table tennis activities do not really lend themselves to conversations with mother tongue English speakers, which are few and between in my part of Germany. As a matter of fact I was actually enrolled on an advanced English course during my time at grammar school (business), much was learned and much has been forgotten since. Nevertheless I am still convinced that my English is good enough in order to communicate with most English speakers. In order to satisfy your strive for perfection, here is a formal reminder that the International TT-News Open are due to commence in two weeks time. I acknowledge that it is not ideal that the electronic tournament registration procedures are not entirely in English, but these teething problems will be sorted by the time we reach next year’s tournament. I have therefore uploaded an English tournament registration document attached to this thread post, which can be used for manual registration. Warm greetings to everyone Matthias Landfried
