China's table tennis association has removed four national team members for having romantic affairs that it said impeded preparations for this year's Olympic Games.

Women's world No. 9 Li Nan and teammates Bai Yang, and Fan Ying have been ordered to return home to "carry out deep reflection," media reports said Monday, quoting head coach Cai Zhenhua.

Men's player Hou Yingchao, identified by the reports as Li's boyfriend, was also sent home.

The removed players "engaged in romantic affairs, affecting training," Cai was quoted as saying at a team meeting Saturday.

Media reports said players had been ordered to hand in mobile telephones as the team went into seclusion for the start of training Sunday.

Media reports said world No. 1 Ma Lin was Bai's boyfriend but spared punishment because he is expected to be a key player at the Athens Olympics.

Ma's doubles partner Wang Hao was not punished either, despite being identified as being involved with Fan.

Reports said the association also fined and punished other coaches and players, including men's paddler Qiu Yike, who was given a 6-month suspension for drinking.

Li Nan, who is ranked No. 9 in the world, and two other women players, Bai Yang and Fan Ying, have been sent home to "carry out deep reflection," news reports said Monday, quoting the head coach, Cai Zhenhua. One men's player, Hou Yingchao, who news reports identified as Li's boyfriend, was also sent home.

"This is an Olympic year, and we are facing an arduous task," Cai was quoted as saying at a team meeting Saturday. He said the players "engaged in romantic affairs, affecting training."

Li Yuhuan, an association official, told The Associated Press that the players had been sent back temporarily to their local teams and could return once they "deal well with their personal affairs."

"Dating is not against the law or regulations. But as professional players, they only have a few years to train and compete. They cannot spend it too much on dating," Li said. "We hope all the young players treasure their time and career."

Reports said that Ma Lin, the world No. 1, was Bai's boyfriend but stayed on the team because he is a likely medalist in Athens. Ma's doubles partner, Wang Hao, who was reportedly involved with Fan Ying, also escaped punishment.

"We let the more important person stay because they have the heavier burdens and responsibilities," Li said.

Auch sehr interessant, wie hier mit zweierlei Maß gemessen wird.
Ma und Wang dürfen bleiben, weil sie Chancen auf den Sieg in Athen haben.
...Hou muss gehen... und die "Flittchen" sowieso.

Im Nachhinein, also nach der Änderung meines Beitrags, muss ich dem Kleinen Schakal recht geben. Die chinesischen Bordelle sollen doch bitte im Friseur-Viertel bleiben.

Also ich muss sagen, dass meine Leistung auch nicht wirklich toll ist, wenn ich vorher gepoppt habe.

Und in der Weltspitze kann das dann schon mal den Ausschlag geben.

Und was wäre denn, wenn dann am Ende rauskommt, dass die Chinesen nur deshalb nur 7 anstatt alle Goldmedaillen gewonnen haben, weil sie im Mannschaftsquartier ein Bordell eröffnet haben.

Ausserdem ein sinnvoller Beitrag zur Geburtenkontrolle in asiatischen Ländern.

Von den Chinesen können wir noch was lernen, die machen das schon alles richtig. :confused:

Ich finde das nicht richtig. Sonst würde Tischtennis ja voll viel an Nivou verlieren. also ich finde das ist keine gute Entscheidung.

Also ich finde es auch schwachsinnig! Solange die Spieler ihre Leistung bringen, kann es dem Verband doch egal sein, was die Spieler in ihrer Freizeit machen!

Ich glaube wir dürfen diese Entscheidung nicht nur negativ sehen, da fast alle von uns nicht "hinter die Kulissen" blicken können.

Die Romanzen haben anscheinend das Training der einzelnen Spieler behindert, wenn nicht sogar verhindert ("impeded preparations for this year's Olympic Games"). Und wenn man nicht, oder nicht vernünftig trainiert, kann man auch keine guten und schon gar keine Topleistungen erbringen!

Hinzu kommt noch, dass im chinesischen Tischtennis die Leistungsdichte bekanntlich sehr groß ist. Jetzt stellt euch einmal vor ihr seid chinesische Topspieler, aber nur der 2. Garde, obwohl die Spieler aus der 1. Garde nur minimal besser sind als ihr. Dafür rackert ihr euch Tag für Tag um eure Leistungen zu zeigen. Die Spieler aus der 1. Garde jedoch turteln während des Trainings rum und halten es hin und wieder nicht für nötig zum Training zu erscheinen. Womit ihre Leistungsstärke auch rapide abnimmt.
Sollte man nun nicht auch den Spielern aus der zweiten Garde eine Chance geben, sich zu beweisen?

Wenn das der Fall ist, gewinne ich als Spieler der 2. Garde ja dann beim nächsten Wettkampf gegen sie und beim Wettkampf danach auch. Außerdem hinterlasse ich im Training eben einen besseren Eindruck.
Da kann ich doch nur froh über die Turteltäubchen sein, oder?

Sollte man nun nicht auch den Spielern aus der zweiten Garde eine Chance geben, sich zu beweisen?

Haben sie doch. Meisterschaften, Turniere und das tägliche Training.
