AW: High throw.
O.K. habe slice und chop verwechselt, slice/push ist der Schupfball und chop ist die Schnittabwehr.
Was würdest du unter "speed drive", "loop drive" verstehen? Die Schlagarten habe ich von der englischen Wikipedia-Seite unter "table tennis" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_tennis

AW: High throw.
Klaus,
The Wikipedia descriptions are surprisingly good - I just went on their website and had a glance. However, just to give you an idea, I have never heard a tt- player using the expression "slice" as opposed to chop. As I mentioned previously, everybody would probably get it right when you talk about "slice" and put the correct meaning to it. However, the majority - if not all- of the players would rather use "push". I also read the explanations for speed-, respectively loop-drive. I think "drive" could best translate to "Schlag". Therefore, a speed drive is a stroke, where the ball is being hit with more speed as opposed to spin. That could be a fast counter, smash, etc.. A loop-drive on the other hand, is considered when you to hit the ball primarily with spin rather than speed. Both expressions, however, I had never heard being used among players. But nevertheless, I think you are save going with the Wikipedia explanations. Tony |

I hope i get you right: for a speed drive there is not much skill needed, any lower class player starts playing it (together with the push), it resembles "Schlagspin", that is a hit with less spin and more speed, whereas a power loop is a hit for advanced players, which gives the ball both alot of speed and spin.
drive: bedeutet allgemein etwa "Schlag" speed drive: Schlag, mehr schnell als spinnig (Schlagspin, Jiang Jialiang) loop drive: Schlag, mehr spinnig als schnell (Topspin) a) power loop (or: power spin): harter Topspin (schnell UND spinnig) b) soft loop: weicher Topspin counter [drive]: Konterball flip / flick: Flip smash: Schuß / Schmetterball block: Block push (rarely: slice): Schupfball chop: Schnittabwehr lob: Ballonabwehr drop shot (or: stop): Stopball

@ Klaus:
"float" should be what you're looking for as "heber". "Fish" I have never heard, but seems to be a more slang description of a defensive stroke far behind the table, where you just reach the ball and don't play really actively - a kind of emergency-stroke, based on quick reflexes (which is used only rarely and can't really be practised, so that's probably why its not part of the "collection of official tt-strokes"). "Pick" I have never read within tt-context, and I don't have any imagination what it could mean. What's the context, you've picked that up (forgive the pun, please) in? have a nice day matt

"High throw" is Samsonow's backhand service.
And Toni Iommi used to be the lead guitarist with Black Sabbath (or is he still playing?). |

He's still playing. I saw Black Sabbath last year on tour at the Westfalenhalle Dortmund.

There you go! Of course, I am still playing. I got a whole bunch of unreleased stuff up in my cabinets which just devastatingly screams to be mastered and released...
Anyway, back to the initial topic. Shame on me, I forgot to ask my pals about Klaus' open definitions. I'll do that once the guys return from their Baltimore-trip. Everybody seems to be be headed out to play the yearly team competitions. They should be back next week, assuming they are still able to walk at all after three days of constant playing. Alright, let's play it by ear and I'll shoot you a note once I know more.... Tony Geändert von Tony_Iommi (24.11.2006 um 06:58 Uhr) |
