Idee China National Team News

From 26 Sep to 3 Aug 2015 there will be held the Asian Championships in Pattaya.

This will be the participating chinese national team:

Men: Zhang Jike, Ma Long, Xu Xin, Fan Zhendong, Fang Bo

Women: Ding Ning, Liu Shiwen, Zhu Yuling, Chen Meng, Mu Zi

I think it will be a very important tournament for Zhang Jike. If he will not play on his very best level, his future in the chinese national team will come to an end.

All players should be very hot, because we have the pre-olympic year. I think the final will be Ma Long versus Fan Zhendong or Xu Xin. Fang Bo will have no chance. Zhang Jike will have his last big fight, but lose in the semifinals.

I think all 8 semifinal players men and women will come from China. No chance for Jun Mizutani, Koki Niwa, Chuang Chih-Yuan, Chen Chien-An, Wong Chun Ting, Yoo Saehyuk or any other player from Korea, Japan, Hong Kong, Chinese Taipeh, or Singapore!

Or what do you think?

I think you will be right, ....
or maybe Mima Ito will beat them all, also Ma Long.
and after that Miu Hirano will beat them all.

Nah I am only joking, let´s enjoy the tournament,
I think the Top-Chinese players will dominate,
but I am also open for surprises.

I love all the players who will be on that great tournament.
Mima Ito will be on the Olympics in Rio as the youngest TT-Player
ever, so I hope she can show that she did deserve this chance and preform
very well, also on the Asian Tournament.

Maybe Mima-Chan & Miu-Chan
can bring Ning Ding or Liu Shiwen a bit in trouble,
would be nice to see her as a 14 year old schoolgirl
with a giant impact on the Tabletennis-History,
also when she has this already today.

When Zhang Jike will not make it to the Olympics
it will be sad, but I love them all,
I will not even miss one of them on the Onlympics.
Also in the Japanese National Team there are so many players
I would love to see on the Olympics,
but only a few will have the chance of course.

Table Tennis in Asia is on such a high Level,
specially in China and the youth in Japan,
I do not want to know what they all sacrifice for their
career and to be part of the Olympic Games.

So good luck for all of them and all my respect.

China took away the ban of Liu Shiwen!

So she can come back and play on international circuit.

Liu Guoliang is among the five nominees named by China to run for the second edition of the IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards.

Eligible coaches must have attended at least one edition of the Olympic Games, and made outstanding achievements and contributions to encouraging athletes in summer or winter Olympic sports in line with the Olympic values.
Liu Guoliang as a former Grand Slam champion, had guided the Chinese table tennis team in four Olympic Games. Under his reign, China won 15 out of 16 golds awarded in the sport since the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

The IOC Coaches Lifetime Achievement Awards were launched last year. It is an initiative of the IOC Athletes' Entourage Commission to raise awareness about the athletes' entourage and recognise the important role coaches play in supporting athletes on the road to their sporting dreams. The awards are presented annually.

Nominations can be made by Olympians, International Federations, National Olympic Committees, members of the IOC Athletes' and Athletes' Entourage Commissions and IOC Members.

The winner of the first edition were retired American swimming coach Jon Urbanchek and Japanese synchronized swimming coach Kaneko Masako.

The General Administration of Sports in China is recommending these five coaches: Liu Guoliang, Lang Ping, Zhou Jihong, Sun Haiping and Zhang Jun:

Liu Guoliang (1976) is a legendary table tennis player, and former head coach of the Chinese men's national table tennis team. He led Team China to win the team gold medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, along with the victories of single male players. His most famous apprentices are Ma Lin, Wang Hao and Wang Liqin.

Lang Ping (1960) is nicknamed the "Iron Hammer" and is a Chinese legend in volleyball. She is the current coach of the Chinese women’s volleyball team and has guided China to the gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Zhou Jihong (1965) is the first diving gold medalist for China, and has been the coach of the Chinese diving team since 1998, having trained 24 Olympic champions so far.

Sun Haiping (1955) is the coach of retired 110m hurdler Liu Xiang, who was the first Chinese male athlete to have won an Olympic gold medal in athletics in 2004.

Zhang Jun (1977) is a former Chinese badminton player who bagged the gold in mixed doubles at the 2000 and 2004 Olympic Games. He is now the coach of China's national singles and doubles teams.

Liu Guoliang worked as commentator at team World Championships and team World Cup.

He analyzed the CNT players. You can watch it on video with english undertitle. I will write you some informations and embed the videos.

Liu Guoliang told, that Xu Xin is more a gambler, has much playfulness, likes to entertain and playing show-rallies and loses sometimes his focus (especially if he is leading high). He has always an optimistically mood and don't think so much about his match and the game. He is more like Fan Zhendong, they are playing and lookings what's going on. They don't have this meticulous attention to details like Ma Long. That is the reason why Ma Long is the No. 1! But both can still improve. Especially Fan Zhendong should learn from Ma Long, but he has a different style and he can not copy Ma Long. Personality can not be changed, it is more about key facts and basic issues.

Ma Long is completely different. He is more serious, works always hard and concerns more about things and shows big responsibilty. He is always focussed on each point and is planning everything in detail. He is thinking much, sometimes too much and he wants always perfectionism. But Ma Long is not only like a machine, his style to play is also like art - a combination of Jan-Ove Waldner and Kong Linghui. How he can read the game, analyze in split seconds situations, that is all-time top class, there he is the best of the best.

Liu Guoliang continued, that Fan Zhendong plays more like a robot, 80% always the same, a routine work like a computer program. And he don't like to change things. You know what will happen, but you have nearly no chance to do something against this machine. He is definitively like a bulldozer or even a tank.

Ma Long is very variabel, told Liu Guoliang, he has all tactics and variations and you can never know what will happen. He keeps you always busy and the match will always be unpredictable for you and you'll have no idea what to do.

Ma Long wants to have everything under control. Versus the most players, he has this control over the game. There are very few moments, he fells uncomfortable, from Europe for example versus Liam Pitchford which he don't know so good. And from Japan versus Koki Niwa, versus whom you sometimes can also not know what happens. Koki Niwa has creative inspirational moments and periods, then it is difficult to play versus him, but you have to stay focussed because he can not keep this attitude the whole match, so your chances will come. Sometimes it is more about Koki Niwa what will happen, this are reasons why players don't like so much to play versus him. But brute force players like Zhang Jike or before Wang Hao don't care about this, the do their thing and give Koki Niwa not a minimum of chance and he gives up soon.

For me this is the most interesting part. Really amazing to get these informations from Liu Guoliang, because he knows his former players best.

I did not expect, that there are such big differences between Ma Long and Fan Zhendong, but if I remember, yes, I saw amazing scenes of Ma Long with much feeling. No roboter table tennis. Fan Zhendong is more like a machine and he don't have this creativity like Xu Xin and Ma Long. The difference between Xu Xin and Ma Long is, that Ma Long plays much more effective.

Warm Up for the Asien Games.

Fan Zhendong won all his single matches.

The match versus Liang Jinkung was close and very good.
